The great Wolfsheim

That night, Nick called me, he asked me, ‘why didn’t you show up to Gatsby’s funeral?’ I lied to him, told Nick I could not come because I does not get involved in the aftermath of a death or get mixed up in the murder, which would have secretly been risk to my own illegal enterprises. Little did Nick know, that I was in robbing the bayside Brooklyn bank during that funeral.      Gatsby was one of my greatest accomplices, me, Gatsby and the rest of my mafia — the shiem family — would terrorize the city every night.  Shaking down the largest New York banks, shops, and bars. His auto shop is pretty successful, he could have been living in west egg instead the valley of dust, a...

Party people and poets

“ This moment is all there is” —Rumi      In the 12th century Seljuk Sultanate (now modern-day Turkey), the ancient poet Rumi was living and speaking in a world very different from ours, yet his words still echo in today’s society. His poetry, rooted in Islamic mysticism (Sufism), focuses on many themes such as love, truth, and the importance of living. One of his main talking points was on the dangers of illusion. He spoke on this matter thousands of years ago, but this ties in with the actions of Gatsby in the 1920s. For a majority of the book, he spends his time creating his own pers...

It may seem straightforward, but throughout history, there’s been different interpretations, understanding, and applications of individualism. Individualism itself never really had a defined start, but a more commonly argued-upon inception for individualism was around 5th century BCE ancient Greece. Philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle emphasized personal virtue and rational thought. It was a major laying ground from more modern feminist movement later on. Socrates was known for how he challenged societal norms, and urging individuals to “know thyself.” Aristotle, while more community-oriented, also argued the importance of personal virtue (witch means to  living wisely and ethically by choosing what’s right through reason and self-awareness ). If you go roughly 20,000 years later, during the Renaissa...
